Pathway: Performing and Production Arts - Acting for Stage & Screen

   Section 1: Rationale 

Before i started this course, i had minimal skills and understanding of what it meant to be an actor, understanding bits of script work and emotions. Through the course so far i have developed a further understanding in these acting techniques and others (such as accents, improvisation, vocal skills and creating characters) and massively improved on my confidence as a whole. My confidence means a lot to me as it has made me a stronger, better person within myself as well as an actor. This is great working towards my goal to further develop my learning in second year then hopefully go off to drama school in the future.

   Section 2: Project Concept

For Radium Girls, my production role is a 'vocal coach' meaning i make sure everyone's voices are warmed up ready for rehearsal. I aim to do this by creating some fun games to keep everyone entertained whilst getting ready, as well as some script work to work on articulation. As for the characterisation, i intend to delve into the background of my character by focusing on how the radium girls were effected and their stories and interpret their history into my role. I have delved into the movie of radium girls and i find what happened to them fascinating, therefore id love to learn more about them and ensure that the history of these girls is properly demonstrated through my acting, as what they went through was so horrible yet nobody knew what it was, therefore they suffered in confusion for years which is a difficult thing to show on stage which is a challenge i am willing to take.

   Section 3: Evaluation

I will document my work using both a daily blogger and a notepad with a pen and make notes about everything that happens during the day. Using this i can see how everything will develop with time and be able to reflect on previous work to see my starting point compared to my end point.

   Proposed Research Sources & Bibliography 

As this project moves forward, i intend to use the original radium girl text as a research source, using this to expand on the original project. I have also watched the radium girls movie and intend to watch different versions of the play to expand my character development and see different interpretations of my character. I also intend to look into certain parts of the radium girls in more detail from websites such as the conditions of the plants, what the girls suffered from, etc.
